The Price of Strawberries by Grady Chambers was read by Heathen/Heather Derr-Smith in El Paso Texas as a part of the Cuvaj se/Take Care Poetry Border Protest Reading series. Children continue to be detained illegally and immorally, abused and tortured having been separated from their families seeking asylum. The United States is violating International Human rights treaties as well as domestic laws on migration, meant to protect refugees. The trump administration is flagrantly violating U.S. laws in an effort to deter migration. This is a crime against humanity and Cuvaj se/Take Care stands against fascism everywhere in the world.
This poem speaks to the universal experience of loss & grief and our shared humanity, which is precious and should be cherished in community and solidarity with one another.
